New Jersey Legislator Denies a DUI Allegation

New Jersey Assemblyman Paul D. Moriarty was accused of driving while intoxicated in his Gloucester County hometown last Tuesday.
Moriarty, aged 55, officially claimed he had not been drinking and would vehemently battle to prove his innocence. He added that he was confident that his lawyer would make the allegations look unsubstantial as they really are.

According to police report, Moriarty was stopped by a Washington Township policeman who claimed the former had cut him off at a junction.
Moriaty explained: "I challenged the officer's DUI allegation, which made him instruct me to get out of my vehicle and do a test to check my sobriety while proceeding with a summons for DUI.”

Moriarty made it clear that he had inserted into his body not even one drop of alcoholic drink. He added that the overall incident is nothing more than a farce and an unauthorized use of force by the police.

Moriarty held the position of the mayor of Washington Township in the years 2004 – 2008. He remarked that the officer who arrested him had been dismissed from the police force beforehand for supposedly not being completely honest in an internal investigation. The officer retained his post by court order.
